DOCUMENTS

Fulbright assistant teachers are allowed to apply for their Austrian residence permit at any Austrian Honorary Consulate in the U.S (within the respective jurisdiction).

These are the documents the applicants have to present:

  • Application form filled out and signed
“Antrag auf Erteilung einer Aufenthaltsbewilligung Sonderfälle unselbständiger Erwerbstätigkeit“

  • Passport and passport copy

  • Recent passport sized photo in color (high quality)

  • Acceptance letter from Fulbright Austria

  • Police record (from the local police or FBI) with an Apostille. Please make a copy of both the police record and the Apostille (don't detach the Apostille from the police record)

  • If applicable: Marriage certificate with an Apostille. Please make a copy of both the certificate and the Apostille

  • Proof of accommodation in Austria according to the local standards

  • Proof of comprehensive health and accident insurance valid in Austria for the duration of their entire stay. In case of potential time lapses in insurance coverage, proof of Schengen Travel Insurance needs to be submitted.

  • Pre-paid, trackable envelope addressed to:
    Austrian Consulate General c/o VISA
11859 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 501, Los Angeles, California 90025

  • Application fee, TP 1a/1

Please submit the application form and supporting documents without staples (except originals with Apostille).

The Consulate will check the application and forward it to the Austrian authorities. Once the application is being processed by the Austrian authorities, it takes between two and three months to get the approval. We will be notified electronically when the residence permit is approved and we then send an email to the applicant informing them that the residence card is ready to be picked up in Austria (at the competent authority of the city/town where the applicant will live in Austria).

The Appointment

We at the Austrian Honorary Consulate in Denver have to verify your documents, which you then send to the Austrian Consulate General in Los Angeles.

Note: if you don’t have all the requirements on the day of your appointment you will have to schedule a new appointment. NO COPIES can be made at the consulate!

As soon as we have verified your documents, you can send the verified copies together with a self-addressed, prepaid return envelope to:

Austrian Consulate General
