Forms and Documents

The Certificate of Citizenship (Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis or “Bescheid über den Erwerb der Staatsbürgerschaft durch Anzeige”) is the only official document giving proof of your Austrian citizenship and must always be presented when you apply for an Austrian passport.

Apostille

An apostille is an internationally recognized form of notarization and ensures that public documents issued in one country will be recognized as valid in another country. It must either be attached as an annex to the official document or placed on the document itself by means of a stamp.

Fee Schedule

Some of the services provided by the Austrian Embassies and Consulates are subject to a fee. Certain services are free of charge. This includes e.g. services made immediately necessary by the birth of a child if they are requested within two years of the child's birth.

Citizenship for Persecuted Persons and their Direct Descendants

In October 2019, the Austrian parliament unanimously adopted an amendment to the Austrian Citizenship Act (“Staatsbürgerschaftsgesetz/StbG”) in recognition of its historical responsibility towards persons persecuted by National Socialism and their descendants.

According to § 58c of the Austrian Citizenship Act persecuted persons and their descendants can acquire Austrian citizenship by means of a declaration (“Anzeige”), without having to give up their current citizenship or nationality in return.

For individuals seeking Austrian Citizenship in accordance to § 58c of the Austrian Citizenship Act kindly reach out to the Austrian Consulate General in Los Angeles as we do not process this application at the Consulate in Denver.

The Appointment

We at the Austrian Honorary Consulate in Denver have to verify your documents, which you then send to the Austrian Consulate General in Los Angeles.

Note: if you don’t have all the requirements on the day of your appointment you will have to schedule a new appointment. NO COPIES can be made at the consulate!
